OHMYGODOHMYGODOHMYGOD

You'll never believe what just came in the post...

... ANOTHER LETTER FROM MY DONOR!!! I'm actually crying a little bit with excitement. As you may or may not remember he sent me a letter not long after my transplant in late 2009 and I haven't heard from him since so it's extremely amazing and wonderful to get something from him. I can't express how happy I am right now. I need to calm down and write in coherent sentences. Breathe Constanze, it's only two pages of printed A4. Money can't buy things like this.

Anyway, the similarites between him and me are starting to get quite eerie. He's sent me a photo of his new cat which is a Maine Coon and as I'm sure I've mentioned on here they're my favorite breed of cat and I've been dying to have one for years. His old cat Ofenrohrputzer (which confusing translates as stove pipe cleaner) passed away so he decided to get a new one. He's got a new job as an electrical engineer (that's nearly physics) and travels around a lot (sound familiar?) and has just taken up Japanese sword fighting (if I could, I would). He's actually even cooler than me. Overexcited. Donor this, donor that. Donor donor donor. Really cool donor.

I also know more about where he lives. He's in a village somewhere between Karlsruhe and Freiburg in the Rhine valley, sort of close to France. They make a lot of wine. My surname comes from the god of wine. It's all connected, like a little web of stem cells and German-ness.

He calls me X. This makes me feel like a secret agent. Receiving censored letters from abroad in the post. It's all very shady. He also says he'd like to have much more frequent correspondance with me which is lovely. Although the censors are so slow that might be impossible; they have to make sure we're not sending secret coded messages and whatnot. So everything moves like a snail. An overexcited bone marrow-y snail.

So I leave you today the happiest cancer patient in the universe. All this fun is too much for my weak little brain :)

Constanze :)

P.s Here's his cat. Miaow. Squark. Moo.

  1. Now that's cool news to hear! And he seems to be a great dude to get some stem cells from - sounds like receiving an intraveneous boost of general awesomeness (besides all the bone marrow making abilities and stuff, like a bonus). :) But may I ask you a question? Why is your correspondence censored? I thought, donors and (what's the right term, receivers?) were allowed to meet after a certain period of time had passed? Can't you do that or do you two just have to wait some more?
